I had seen this behavior before, but not in the middle of town.  I know that this species depends on quick flights into small ponds and pools to reproduce. Last week I entered the remaining specimens from Julie and Darrin into our MOS database, and went over 25,000 records.  That's pretty darn good for a group like the Odonata.  A lot of states (in fact, most) do not have a specimen-level database that is the equal of ours. That was about the time the MOS was just getting going. Bill Smith from Wisconsin identified most of them in 1999. So, I blame her for this. The Michigan Odonata Survey, of which I have played a big part organizing over the past 9 years, has accumulated a tremendous amount of data, and it is here that I hope to offer some notes on these amazing insects.
